Building green with Autoclaved Aerated Concrete.

Standard concrete building blocks provide little fire resistance and almost no insulation, which results in higher energy bills and less occupant comfort and safety.  The solution is Autoclaved Aerated Concrete.

Made from cement, fine aggregates and an agent that causes the mixture to expand, this building material ends up as 80% air. Once molded and cut to size, the blocks are set and bonded with mortar, providing a strong, fire resistant structure that provides insulation from both sound and temperature.

Although light enough to float on water, this high tech green building technology is suitable for walls, floors and roof structures, and can be finished with conventional siding or stucco.
Key advantages of Autoclaved Aerated Concrete blocks are:

  • Durability and dimensional stability.
  • 4 hour fire resistance.
  • Emits no toxic fumes.
  • Sound insulation.
  • Temperature insulation.
  • Resistant to rot, mold and insects.
  • Provides thermal mass.

The downside is that very few builders are experienced in using this construction technology. Our builders have both the knowledge and experience, as can be seen by visiting our model home that has achieved both LEED and zero energy certifications, because of the use of Autoclaved Aerated Concrete block construction.
